Girls Can Fight Too! Workshop
Girls Can Fight Too!(GCFT) is a self-defense system designed for girls ages 7 and up. We implement real-life scenarios in our training to better prepare our girls for the dangers society present. The GCFT Curriculum covers prevention of bullying, dating violence, identity theft, Internet predators as well as netiquette (social media etiquette) and more. In addition to basic, physical self-defense, young divas will receive the following:
Session One:
I’m A Girl – I Can’t Fight Too!!
Young divas deconstruct gender roles, expectations, and stereotypes helps them think critically, challenge sexism and homophobia, and helps them make decisions on how to look, act, and be based on their individual thoughts and feelings rather than on societal expectations.
Session Two:
Identity
Young divas learn the historical origins of stereotypes, how to think critically, and the importance of seeing people as individuals will help them challenge stereotypes.
Session Three:
Healthy Friendships
Young divas define a healthy relationship; set boundaries for themselves in relationships.
Session Four:
Bullying
Young divas learn to use alternatives to language that hurts others and use language they are proud of helps facilitate effective communication and can help them avoid conflict.
Session Five:
Social Media Smarts
Young divas learn about potential dangers of the internet; plan how they will stay safe when using the internet.
Session Six:
What/Who Are Your Supports
Young divas identify family, community, and school supports to assist with being a Fierce and Fabulous Girl That Can Fight Too!
